The McMaster’s men’s volleyball team will join fellow Canadian Universities Calgary, Trinity Western, and host Alberta in welcoming a group of topnotch teams from the United States as they compete in the 2007 Husky Oil CAN-AM Classic October 11-13.
The elite tournament will showcase some of the best young volleyball players on the continent when select CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport) teams take on the top Division I teams from the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association).
The Marauders open the tournament against the defending NCAA Champion University of California Irvine today (Oct. 12) with opening serve scheduled for 2:00 pm EST. Later, they meet the University of South Carolina (USC) at 8:30 pm EST. Day two of competition pits the Marauders against Pepperdine (2007 NCAA Final Four) at 12:00 pm EST and George Mason at 8:30 pm EST.
A confident McMaster squad heads to Alberta having just opened the season with a gold medal win at their annual Thanksgiving Invitational.
“After coming off a tournament victory at home this is a great opportunity for us to go on the road and play some of the best teams in North America,” said Coach Dave Preston.
“These matches give us a chance to work on some of the tactics we have been training with as we prepare for a very difficult OUA season. Alberta always does a great job of hosting this event and we look forward to competing against some of the premiere NCAA progams.”
