Lords rule over Mohawk’s fastball women

The Mohawk Mountaineers, already assured of a spot in next weekend’s Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Women‘s Fastball Championship Tournament in Oshawa, dropped a 4-2 decision to the tourney hosts from Durham on Saturday (Oct. 13).

Durham (9-1) scored two runs in the first inning and tacked on two unearned runs in the third to beat Jenny Koschanow. But Mohawk (3-6) certainly gave the Lords a game in uncomfortably cold and windy conditions for the players and bundled up fans in the game which started at 11 a.m. at Mohawk Sports Park.

Samantha Tubman’s double plated Ellie Hogg in the bottom of the first inning for Mohawk’s first run. Tubman then scored on Michelle James’ two out triple in the fifth frame. The Mountaineers continued to get their bats on the ball, but the Lords got some strong defence, including two outstanding running catches by their centre fielder.

Mohawk will complete the regular season with a makeup game at St. Clair on Tuesday (Oct. 16).
