Mohawk runners are off to the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Cross Country Championships in Kingston on Saturday (Oct. 27). St. Lawrence College is playing host to the event which will be run at the Fort Henry National Historic Site.
The course is a good test for 224 runners from 18 Ontario Colleges; it will be used for the 2010 International Association of Athletics (IAAF) World Cross Country Championship.
The women’s five kilometre race will start at 10:30 am. Mohawk will have only one competitor, Charlene Gibbins, who has been a consistent performer in invitational meets this year. Gibbins scored a second place finish, two thirds and a sixth.
Mohawk has an 11 man team scheduled to run in their 8K event in Kingston starting at 11:45 am. The Mountaineers are led by Andre Simon and Justin Hensen, both of whom missed some late season action because of minor injury or illness. Other members of the Mohawk men’s team are Cameron Shepherd, Ryan Hassim, Greg Shipman, Peter Jennings, Jacob Mcdonald, Ryan Dionne, Rick Leendertse, Josh Hamilton and Adam Salhani.
