Humber scored just a few minutes after the opening kickoff and went on to a 34-5 rugby win over Mohawk Friday (Oct. 26) in the final OCAA regular season game for the Mountaineers.
The Hawks were led by the 24 point performance of speedy Andre Blake, who had four tries and two converts on a raw, drizzly afternoon at Mohawk Sports Park. The Hawks led 17-0 at half time. They upped that score to 22-0 before Adam Davidson got Mohawk’s lone try of the day.
Humber is two points behind first place Seneca. Each team has a game to play. Mohawk, which saw its record fall to 5-3 with its third consecutive loss, is still clinging to third place, but by only one point over Fleming College of Peterborough. The Knights have one game remaining against George Brown, which has managed only a win and tie in its seven games.
Seneca, Humber, Mohawk and Fleming have all clinched berths in the OCAA semi-finals next week. While the match ups have yet to be determined, but the Mountaineers will have to play on the road.
Winners of the semis will go to the Gold Medal game while the losers will play for the Bronze, Saturday November 10 at Fletcher’s Fields in Markham.
