The Mohawk men’s basketball team captured the three day Viking Invitational Tournament at St. Lawrence College in Kingston this weekend. The Mountaineers won the gold medal by defeating the host Vikings 72-66 on Sunday (Oct. 28).
Mackenzie Milmine, who was named to the tourney All-Star team, led Mohawk with 17 points. Matt Bruyn and Marko Gacic each scored 14 and Gacic was named tourney MVP.
Earlier in the event, the Mountaineers downed George Brown 79-65 and defeated Humber 84-74.
Mohawk head coach Brian Jonker felt this win is something of a validation of what they’ve been trying to do over the last three years. “When I say validation, I feel we are heading in the right direction, said the coach. “It’s believing everytime you take the court, you feel you can win. This could be a springboard.”
Mohawk will next see action in the men’s OCAA home opener on Tuesday November 6 versus Fanshawe.
