Mohawk will not repeat as Ontario Colleges Athletic Association rugby champions. But they are still in the hunt for a medal.
The Mountaineers dropped a 35-15 decision to the Seneca Sting in semi final play at Fletcher’s Fields in Markham on Saturday (Nov. 3). They now play Peterborough Fleming for the bronze medal, Saturday, Nov. 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Fletcher’s Fields.
Seneca will meet Humber for the gold medal immediately following. The Ontario University Championship will also be played at the same venue in an exciting day of rugby next Saturday.
Saturday’s game was a lot closer than the final score indicated, as Seneca led only 7-3 at halftime in a very tight defensive game.
Mountaineers’ coach Alex Paris said his team played well. It was close most of the way. But despite second half tries by Mohawk’s James Cumpson and Homer Markle, Seneca was able to find gaps and put on lots of pressure with its kicking game.
