Charlene Gibbins of Mohawk College turned in a solid seventh place finish in a field of 68, and was the top female runner for Ontario, at the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association Cross Country Championships in Grande Prairie, Alberta on Saturday (Nov. 10).
Gibbins was timed in 20:32 for the five-kilometre women’s distance. Mohawk coach Wayne Collins said, “Charlene had a super day. She continues to get better all the time and I am thrilled with her success.”
The race was won by Valerie Belanger of Chicoutimi, Quebec in 19:54.
Mohawk’s men’s team Mohawk finished 10th overall. Collins said most of his men had a good day on a slick, snowy course. The Augustana Faculty from the University of Alberta was the top team.
The top individual Mohawk finisher in the field of 93 was Andre Simon in 18th place with a time of 29:12. Ryan Hassim had his best race of the season and wound up 43rd in 31:26. Justin Hensen clocked 31:44 to finish 46th and Cameron Shepherd was 75th in 33:14.
The winner was Ed Kangogo of Lethbridge in 27:04.
