Double setback for Mohawk in OCAA basketball

The Mohawk Mountaineers men’s basketball team came out firing on all cylinders Tuesday night, hitting 15 three-point throws.

Unfortunately, their long-range accuracy wasn’t enough to stop Sheridan and the Bruins stole a 76-68 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association from the visiting Mountaineers.
The Mountaineers squandered a 16-point early second half lead before losing in overtime. Mackenzie Milmine had 22 points and Ricky Heath added 20 for Mohawk, now 3-3.

The Mountaineers women’s team fared no better, dropping an 86-41 decision in the OCAA doubleheader. The loss left Mohawk with a 1-3 record.

Lisamarie Iavarone, Becky Smith and Safia Zane each scored six points for Mohawk.

The Mountaineers will be in Oshawa this weekend for the Big 8 Classic at Durham College.
