Canadian Cross Country race in Hamilton runner’s sights

Hamilton’s Reid Coolsaet goes into the Dec. 1 Canadian Cross Country Championships as a strong contender for the senior title.

Coolsaet, who trains in Guelph, will have the benefit of home field advantage – the event is being staged at the University of Guelph’s HR Hilton Centre in the Arboretum.
Refinished second at last year’s championships and is the reigning 5000 metres Canadian title holder.

Guelph native Hilary Stellingwerff will have the opportunity to compete in front of friends and family. Hilary won the 1500 metres Canadian Championship earlier this year in Windsor. She then went on to compete at the World Championships in Athletics, finishing sixth in her semi-final heat and just missing making the final.

Other notable athletes at this year’s championships include Cambridge’s Carmen Douma-Hussar. Douma-Hussar has competed in numerous international events through 2007 including the World Championships in Osaka, Japan.
