Mountaineer’s record outing Cull-minates in OCAA honour

Mohawk Mountaineer left side volleyball star Jasmin Cull has been named the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association’s Male Athlete of the Week.

The 6-4 left side power hitter and fourth-year player out of Ancaster High School, lit up the Fanshawe Falcons from the service line, notching 12 aces to tie an OCAA league record. Cull, a 2006-07 Canadian college All-Canadian, matched the mark set by Peterborough Fleming’s Tim Trites, in the 2003-04 season.

Cull is on pace to break the single season service record of 38 established by Georgian’s Eric Talsma in 2005-06. The Mountaineers defeated Fanshawe 3-2 (19-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-12, 15-9) in their match in London on Nov. 14. The play on both sides of the net was notable, including monster games being turned in by Cull who also had 16 kills to compliment his 12 aces, one block and nine digs.
