Brock University Badgers’ Sharon Hollinshead is this week’s Female Athlete of the week in Ontario University Athletics competitions.
The fourth year Earth Science major from Welland helped lead the Brock women’s basketball team to two victories, including a 97-91 victory in double overtime against the first place Varsity Blues. In the first overtime, with U of T leading 87-84 with 3.2 seconds left on the clock, Hollinshead dribbled over centre court and shot from 40 feet out draining it at the buzzer to send it to double OT.
Hollinshead was outstanding, as she recorded her first career triple-double finishing with a season high 21 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists. She also had two blocked shots and two steals. In two games this past week, she averaged 16.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 7.0 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per game. From the field, she connected on 13-of-23 (56.5%).
Brock’s Del Monte, a fourth-year Sport Management major, received an OUA Peak Performance recognition as he helped lead the Badgers’ men’s hockey team to their league tying 10th and 11th victories of the season.
In two games, Del Monte recorded three goals and one assist, including the game winner in the Badgers 5-4 shootout victory and the game winning goal in a 7-3 win over the Windsor Lancers. The Mississauga native also extended his point streak to four games dating back to Nov. 14. During that span he has registered six goals and two assists.
