With the second semester of varsity sports looming, three Mohawk College teams are off to tournaments this weekend.
The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association’s top ranked men’s volleyball team goes to Quebec City Friday to Sunday (Jan. 4-6) to meet out-of-province opposition in the prestigious Limoilou tourney.
Friday morning the Mountaineers will face St. Thomas University of Fredericton. They then hit against Saint-Jerome Quebec in the evening. Play resumes Saturday afternoon with Mohawk meeting Beauce-Appalaches, of Ville Saint-Georges Quebec. Playoffs follow on Sunday.
The women’s volleyball team, also ranked No. 1 in the province, competes in the Killer Instinct Cup at Durham College in Oshawa Friday and Saturday. The Mountaineers have three games Friday, against Cambrian, Fanshawe, and Loyalist at 6:00 pm. Saturday Mohawk plays Niagara and Seneca. Playoffs start at 2 p.m. with the championship game slated for 5 p.m.
The men’s basketball team plays in the George Brown Invitational in Toronto Friday and Saturday. The Mountaineers will face St. Clair to tip off pool play. Depending on the results of opening games, they’ll meet either Durham or George Brown Saturday. Additional games and times to be determined following the second match.
