Hamilton Bulldogs defenceman Ryan O’Byrne has been named to the 2008 Canadian American Hockey League All-Star team. O’Byrne will join his head coach Don Lever and assistant coach Ron Wilson, as well as the entire Hamilton Bulldogs training staff, on the Canadian squad’s roster for this season’s All-Star Classic on Jan. 27-28.
O’Byrne, 23, is currently on recall to the National Hockey League Montreal Canadiens and had two assists and 18 penalty minutes in 11 games before fracturing his thumb on Dec. 28 against the Florida Panthers. The 6-foot-5, 225-pound blueliner has not played since the injury. Both of O’Byrne’s assists came in his first-career NHL game on Dec. 6 versus the Boston Bruins.
In 18 games in the AHL with Hamilton this season, the native of Victoria, B.C. has registered eight points (2-6-8), 43 penalty minutes and a plus-4 rating. O’Byrne has played 98-career AHL games with the Bulldogs, collecting two goals, 18 assists, 20 points and 172 penalty minutes.
