Hamilton’s Laura Moulton will be honoured as one of the Ontario University Athletics’ Women of Influence.
Moulton, an outstanding cross country and track and field athlete, competed for the University of Guelph during her Canadian Interuniversity Sport career. The Women of Influence luncheon, now in its fifth year, recognizes the top female scholar-athletes from across the province. This year’s event will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 23 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The event honours individuals who have excelled in their chosen sports and fields of study.
The 23-year-old Moulton is the epitome of a student-athlete. She not only excels in cross country and track and field but also in the classroom. While sustaining an 83.4% academic average in Human Kinetics, Moulton had a sensational 2006-2007 season with the following distinctions in cross country: OUA All-Star, CIS All- Canadian, CIS Academic All-Canadian, OUA bronze medalist and CIS silver medalist.
She was also named the 2006-07 University of Guelph’s President’s Award winner for her excellence in athletics and academics.
Moulton was a CIS All-Canadian in each of her four years at Guelph, she established outstanding records for consistency on the field of play and was one of the dominant runners in the CIS during that period.
She led the Gryphons cross country team to two national titles (’05 and ’06) and a silver (’04) as well as finishing on the podium as an individual with a bronze in ’05 and silver in ’06. She managed to do this while maintaining a very strong record in the classroom, which resulted in her being named Student-Athlete of the Year for the Gryphons in her graduating year, and gaining entrance to McMaster’s School of Physiotherapy this past fall.
The guest speaker at this year’s ceremony is Canadian LPGA golfer and recipient of the Order of Canada, Lorie Kane. The event is available to the public. Tickets ($80 per ticket) can be purchased by contacting Lisa Constanzo at 416.923.1688 x23 or email@example.com
