Mountaineers men, women stay perfect in OCAA volleyball

Mohawk’s volleyball teams both remained undefeated in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association play following their trip to Sheridan College in Oakville on Tuesday (Jan. 15).

The women downed the Sheridan Bruins 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 24-26, 25-17). The Mountaineers are now 7-0. Leah Waxman led Mohawk with 19 kills, two aces and three digs. Stacey Dafoe had 17 kills, two stuff blocks and two digs. Coach Brian McEnhill called it a scrappy win. “It wasn’t one of the best games we have played this year (but I’m) happy with another win.”

The Mohawk men made it six straight victories but had to rally twice for a 3-2 win over the Bruins in a real see-saw affair. The scores were 22-25, 25-18, 16-25, 25-14, 15-6.

Both of Mohawk’s teams swing back into action Saturday afternoon (Jan. 19), when Windsor St. Clair Saints visit the Fennell Gym. The women will play at 2 p.m. followed by the men at 4 p.m.
