Mohawk enjoys Sudbury badminton trip

Mohawk’s varsity badminton team continued its preparations for the Regional Championships early next month, posting some excellent results at the Cambrian Invitational Tournament in Sudbury on the Jan. 18-20 weekend.

Mohawk won three “B” Flight titles. Chris Hong led the way in men’s singles, then teamed with Crystal Oakes to take the mixed doubles. Oakes and Margaret Myjak captured their flight in women’s doubles.

In “C” Flight, Jas Mogford and Hong won in men’s doubles, while Laura Arbour took the women’s singles.

Coach Matt Schnarr noted there were six colleges at the tourney, plus many talented players from the Sudbury area. He felt the Mountaineers had a great showing in their final tuneup for the regionals.

“We are proving we are prepared and ready for our championships”, said Schnarr. “Jill Larlee and Jose Morales continue to improve and should peak at the Regionals.”

That event will be staged at Mohawk on Feb. 1-2.
