McMaster to host Hoops for the Cure to support breast cancer research

On Wednesday, Jan. 30 McMaster University will host the Hoops for the Cure basketball event in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

The event is an initiative of Canadian Interuniversity Sport, Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, with events held at every school participating in women’s basketball in the country.

McMaster will play the Brock Badgers with the women tipping off at 6 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 8 p.m.

McMaster will collect donations in support of breast cancer research and will host a silent auction featuring an autographed pink jersey, basketball and special edition warm-up tops that will be worn at the games.

McMaster’s director of athletics and recreation said the university “is committed to working with the CIS Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and the Canadian Breast Cancer Research Foundation to help create a future without breast cancer.”

The coaches’ association plans to announce the total of all money raised at the CIS Championship in Saskatoon in March.
