Mohawk v-ball Men cap perfect regular season, Women finish 12-2

Mohawk’s volleyball teams capped outstanding regular seasons as both the men and women fashioned three game sweeps of the Redeemer Royals at a jam-packed Redeemer Gym Wednesday (Feb. 13).

With a large contingent of Mohawk supporters in Mountaineer Summit T-shirts cheering their sides on, the men scored a 25-18, 25-20, 25-20 win. Jasmin Cull led the way again for the Mountaineers with 10 kills, two stuff blocks and three service aces. Kevin Watson had eight kills and two aces, Steve Pawelczyk had six kills, one block and two aces and Adam Schiedel collected six kills and three aces. Mohawk completed a perfect 12-0 regular season in the OCAA’s Central West Region and earned a spot in next week’s OCAA Championships at Fanshawe College in London. The event will run from February 21-23.

Meanwhile, the Mohawk women knocked off Redeemer 25-22, 25-20, 25-14. Leah Waxman had 10 kills, one stuff block and two service aces. Stacy Dafoe had five kills and five aces, Janette Jakubiec contributed five kills, three blocks and one ace and Rachel VanHartingsveldt added seven kills and one ace.

The Mohawk women finished their regular season with a 12-2 record and will play a cross over game this Saturday, February 16 at 4:00 pm at the Fennell Gym. They will meet either Trent University of Peterborough or Loyalist College of Belleville.
