Shutouts highlight women’s hockey in Stoney Creek

In recent Stoney Creek Women’s Hockey League Senior Rec action, Lorraine Poulin scored her first career goal to help pace her Stoney Creek F & M Signs squad to a 4-1 victory over Dofasco Steel Ducks. Penny Lefebour, Kathy Toding and Katie Tansley notched the other F & M Signs goals. Picking up assists in the win were Lindsey Logan (2), Janine Senour, Sue Tansley, Leah Driscoll, Lefebour and Toding. Frances MacDonald replied for the Steel Ducks assisted by Sheila Codispodi.

Netminder Alithea Chrysler had the shutout in a 3-0 win for her Opti-Mrs Right Wingers over the Stoney Creek Panthers. Lisa Brown, Cheryl Durham and Nadine Corbett found the net for the Opti-Mrs team with assists to Shannon Stanners, Cheryl Morash, Brown and Durham.

Dofasco Canuck goalie Jane Bauder posted the shutout in a 3-0 win over the Admiral Trophies Orange Peelers. Emmy MacKenzie and Lorraine Callaghan each had a goal and an assist. Cathy Lawrence scored the third Canuck goal unassisted. Dawn Goddard picked up an assist on the Callaghan goal.

Stoney Creek Last Chance Garage edged the Stoney Creek Pink squad, 3-2. Julie Rioux, Jenn Eaton and Christine Feist potted goals for Last Chance Garage. Sherry Elliott, Tammy Strong and Rioux had the helpers. Replying for the Pink team were Lynncy Powell and Ali Chrysler with assists to Stephanie Hartman, Lynne Vidal and Tara-Lea Beaudoin.

The Teddies & Slessor’s Grimsby Girls topped the Weils Bakery of Westdale by a 2-0 final score. Pat Reynders opened the scoring in the second period and Natasha Farrell added an insurance marker with just over a minute left in the game. Kristie Finnie assisted on the Farrell goal. Pam Jeacock posted the shutout.

Emily Kinread scored the game’s only goal late in the first period as the Stoney Creek Larry’s Sports Sharks hung on for a 1-0 win over Stoney Creek Purple Haze. Amanda Lishman assisted on the Kinread marker while Mel McFarlane recorded the shutout.

Tracey Switzer scored twice and Alana Henderson had one goal and two assists to lead the Dofasco Avalanche to a 3-1 victory over the Admiral Trophies Orange Peelers. Jody Wilkinson picked up an assist in the win. Holly Aitchison scored the Peeler goal assisted by Elissa Cherubini and Jenn Lacombe.

Yvette McCormick had the shutout as Last Chance garage skated to a 2-0 win over All Cover Black Attack. Chris Jacobs and Jennifer Eaton scored with Julie Rioux and Tracy Batchelor counting assists.

In SCWHL Masters division play, veteran goaltender Cathy Phillips recorded the shutout and Mary McClelland scored the game’s lone goal in a 1-0 win for the Stoney Creek Black over the Dofasco Flames. Michelle Carrigan picked up the assists.

Irene MacKenzie, Sam Goehner and Corrine Currie scored in a 3-2 win for their Stoney Creek White squad over Stoney Creek Yellow. Cheryl Oddie, Lisa Porter, Wendy Laity, Cindy Stratford and Margaret Wilson had the helpers. Teresa Connon scored both Yellow goals assisted by Maureen Lamarre, Nicky Humphries, Alison Topp and Dana Djukic.

Stoney Creek Black defeated the Stoney Creek Pink by a 5-3 score. Dana Djukic, Bev Tomasen, Denise Fisher, Chris Hicks, and Lynn Balloch scored for the Black team. Assists went to Karin Toews (2), Karyn Butler, Fisher, Balloch and Hicks. Pat Leishman, Lynncy Powell and Margaret Wilson found the net for Team Pink with assists to Cindy Lake, Wilson and Powell (2).
