Jasmin Cull and Peter Sniuolis of Mohawk College were named to the First All-Star Team at the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association Men’s Volleyball Championship at Humber College on Sunday (March 9).
The All-Canadian Cull, earlier named CCAA Volleyball Player of the Year, was far and away the top offensive player in the championship with 108 points, 18 more than his closest rival. His total included 94 kills (24 ahead of the second-best total), nine service aces and five stuff blocks.
Sniuolis’ name doesn’t appear much on the offensive stats sheet because that is not his role. He proved once again he is one of the finest setters to have played the college game. The Mountaineers, who were knocked out of championship contention by top seeded Mount Royal Cougars of Calgary on Saturday night, rebounded smartly Sunday to defeat Malaspina Mariners of Nanaimo B.C. 3-1 in the bronze medal semi final and then topped the Limoilou Titans of Quebec City 3-1 for the bronze medal.
It marked the first podium finish for Mohawk at the CCAA Championship.
Mount Royal went on to take the gold medal, 3-0 over the UBC Okanagan Lakers.
