Mohawk College has won two more awards from the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association.
Fifth year volleyball setter Peter Sniuolis has been named Male athlete of the week after capping capped off a brilliant career with a Canadian Colleges Athletic Association bronze medal. Sniuolis consistently hit the mark, which was apparent in the offensive numbers of his teammates at the CCAA men’s championship at Humber College.
In Mohawk’s 3-1 win over Limoilou in the bronze medal game, Sniuolis led his side with exceptional decision making and execution of sets, leading four Mountaineers to score in double figures. The Ancaster native also chipped in with three kills, two blocks and 11 digs in the win.
Sniuolis was also selected player of the game in the semi-final against Mount Royal and along with teammate Jasmin Cull, was named to the First Team All Tournament squad.
Meanwhile, Mohawk has won the Mixed Team of the Week honour after winning its section in the OCAA Curling Championship in Windsor. The Mountaineers, skipped by Kris Blonski, downed Confederation 7-4 in the gold medal contest. Mohawk went 4-0 in the round robin beating Confederation (10-3), Niagara (10-3), Sault College (8-3) and Fleming of Peterborough (8-5). Other members of the rink included vice Kathryn Papaioannou, second Russ Gray, lead Aimee Smith, and coach Barry Macklin.
