Mountaineers send two to OCAA all-star basketball affair

Mohawk College’s Lisamarie Iavarone and Alen Beader will represent the Mountaineers in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association’s women’s and men’s all-star basketball classics on March 29.

Over 150 athletes from 20 Ontario colleges will display their talents at the 21st annual OCAA all-star event in the new gym at Durham College in Oshawa. The theme of the day is “Think Pink” to create awareness for breast cancer and the “Power of Pink” campaign.

The day is scheduled to tip-off with the OCAA Co-Ed 2-ball competition at 3:30 pm. Mohawk’s entry includes Melissa Zwolak and Ricky Heath. Heath is also entered in the Coca-Cola 3-Point Competition set to take place at 4:30 pm. Stacey Bourque will carry the banner for the Mountaineers in the women’s competition.

The main event will feature the All-Star games with the women’s contest tipping off at 6 p.m. and the men’s game starting two hours later.

The All-Star Committee has planned a number of special guests to entertain the crowd. There will be musical entertainment prior to each game as well as a performance from the Mighty Fanshawe Falcon Dance Pack. The best mascots from around the province will entertain fans between games as the 10th annual best mascot competition is set to take place. Fans in attendance will also have an opportunity to win up to $5,000 in the OCAA Boston Pizza Shoot for Cash Contest. Also, if 100 points or more is scored by any team during the day, every fan in attendance will win free pizza bread courtesy of Boston Pizza!
