Rookie sparks Mellow Yellow women to Stoney Creek hockey win


Danielle Spilotro and Alison Topp each scored their first career goals in a game where their Stoney Creek Mellow Yellow squad was edged 4-2 by Stoney Creek White in Stoney Creek Women’s Hockey League Masters division action.

Rookie Janet Vandercraats had her first ever two goal game and added an assist to lead the White squad to the win. Sam Goehner and Corrine Currie had the other White markers with Sharon Parco and Goehner picking up assists. Julie McDonald and Nicky Humphries picked up one assist each for Mellow Yellow.

Stoney Creek Pink Masters skated to a 3-1 win over Stoney Creek Black Masters. Pat Leishman, Cindy Lake and Lynncy Powell scored for team Pink with assists to Sandy Grimbly, Sandy Zimmerman, Pam Barrett, Julie McDonald and Powell. Christine Hicks had the team Black goal assisted by Lynn Balloch and Sue Peters.

Dofasco Flames edged the Stoney Creek Pink Masters by a 3-2 margin. Cindy Lebel, Kathy Wyatt and Michelle McInally fired the Flames markers assisted by Kim Badgley and Wyatt. Sandy Grimbly, with a goal and an assist, and Lynncy Powell replied for the team Pink.

In Stoney Creek Women’s Hockey League Senior Rec division play, Christina Williamson scored the winning goal midway through the third period to give her Dofasco Steel Ducks squad a 2-1 victory over the Stoney Creek Panthers. Fiona Nicholson assisted on the winning goal and Lisa McDonald had the other Steel Duck marker. Lise Kuzmich replied for the Panthers assisted by Kate Walker.

Julie Weatherill had a goal and two assists while Tara-Lea Beaudoin and Helen Solski each scored twice to lead the Stoney Creek Pink to a 6-0 win over Stoney Creek Admiral Trophies Orange Peelers. Stephanie Hartman had the other Pink tally plus an assist. Sandy Lemmon, Michelle Visca, Margie Fuller and Lynncy Powell picked up assists in the win. BJ Leng recorded the shutout.

The Dofasco Canucks skated to a 4-2 win over the Stoney Creek All Cover Black Attack. Ashley Joslin, Lori Reed, Emmy McKenzie and Karen Serra had the Canuck goals with assists to Kim Badgley, Dawn Goddard and Joslin. Crystal DeMontigny and Karen Wallace notched the Black Attack goals with Anne Timberg assisting on the DeMontigny marker.

Nadine Corbett scored both goals and Alithea Chrysler picked up the shutout as the Stoney Creek Opti-Mrs Right Wingers topped the Stoney Creek Purple Haze, 2-0. Lisa Brown counted two assists with a single helper going to Pam Dawson.

Amanda Lishman scored the game’s lone goal unassisted midway through the second period to give her Stoney Creek Larry’s Sports Sharks squad a 1-0 win over the Stoney Creek Last Chance Garage. Melanie McFarlane recorded the shutout.

Alana Henderson had the hat trick and Kristen Petten scored twice to lead the Dofasco Avalanche to a 5-1 victory over Weils Bakery of Westdale. Tracey Switzer and Michelle McInally each had four assists in the win with Sandy Coleman adding a single helper. Mandy Muzzin potted the Weils Bakery goal assisted by Paula Cormier.

In Grimsby, the Teddies & Slessor’s Grimsby Girls and the Stoney Creek F & M Signs skated to a scoreless draw. Grimsby’s Pam Jeacock and the Creek’s Martine Esraelian picked up the shutouts.

Next action for the league is the annual SCWHL Year-End Fun Tournament on the April 18-20 weekend at Lawfield Arena and Valley Park Arena. The tournament will feature Senior Rec and Masters divisions.
