Hamilton Hurricanes implement Grassroots football program

After almost an entire year of tireless efforts, the Hamilton Hurricanes Football Club is ready to begin its 2008 season. Players have been signed, equipment has been delivered, parks and stadiums have been booked, and schedules have been made.

The club’s 14-year gridiron absence will officially be over in less than two weeks when hundreds of potential Hurricanes begin spring workouts.

The Hurricanes Grassroots Program will also make its debut, with more than 3,000 youth football players (both tackle and flag) from the Niagara / Hamilton / Brantford / Wentworth areas receiving complimentary Hurricanes season tickets. The drive behind this program is to ensure that all youth players from local minor football programs maintain their interest in the game.

The Grassroots Program will offer a “Safety First” component where the Hurricanes will be donating to each of the minor football programs, Ontario Varsity Football League programs and local high school football programs, hundreds of tickets to each home game to sell as a fundraising opportunity in an effort to ensure that the quality of protective equipment the kids are using is maintained at a high level.

The Hurricanes expect to donate more than 7,000 tickets per game in total to this fundraising program.
