Matt D’Agostini registered a goal, an assist and was named first star in the Hamilton Bulldogs 3-1 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins on Sunday at Copps Coliseum. The win lifted the Bulldogs record to 34-32-3-7 in the American Hockey League but does not change the fact that they will miss the playoffs, a season after winning the Calder Cup.
Hamilton led 1-0 at 6:33 of the opening frame when Eric Manlow redirected a Matt D’Agostini slap shot past Grand Rapids’ netminder Jimmy Howard. The goal was Manlow’s 12th tally of the campaign. The Griffins drew even at 10:03 of the second period when Evan McGrath notched a power-play marker.
Jonathan Ferland gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead at 10:08 of the third stanza when he scored his 13th of the campaign. The ‘Dogs added some insurance when D’Agostini tipped home a Conrad Martin shot from the point at 16:32 of the final frame.
Cedrick Desjardins made 30 saves on 31 shots for Hamilton to earn the win, his second in a row.
The ‘Dogs return to action on Wednesday (April 9) at 7:30 p.m. when they host the Rochester Americans at Copps Coliseum.
