The visiting Hamilton Thunderbirds took advantage of seven Kitchener errors to defeat the Panthers 11-9 in senior Intercounty Baseball League play on Thursday night (June 19).
Hamilton moved two games ahead of Kitchener into seventh place in the standings with the win, despite being out-hit 16-9. It was Hamilton second straight win and sixth of the season, against 12 setbacks. Kitchener is now 4-14.
Chase Gaff picked up the win on the mound, allowing seven runs on 12 hits over 6 1/3 innings. He struck out three and walked three. Wes Koch of Kitchener took the loss, allowing nine runs – just two earned – on eight hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
Richard Rausch had three hits, including a double, walked and scored three runs for Hamilton, while Jesse Robertson had two hits, including a double, scored twice and drove in another run. John Saporsantos had three RBI for the Thunderbirds.
Chris Novia hit a pair of home runs for the Panthers and drove in five runs in a losing cause. Justin Gianfrancesco also homered twice and had two RBI.
