Last-inning rally lifts Stratford over Hamilton

Hamilton Thunderbirds let a one-run lead slip away and fell 6-5 to the Stratford Nationals in senior Intercounty Baseball League play on Friday (June 20).

The Nationals scored three times in the ninth inning for the win at Bernie Arbour Stadium.

Winning pitcher Mike McGillvary (2-3) went two innings in relief of starter Justin Pennell, allowing only three hits and three earned runs.

Scott Wells (0-1) was the loser in a valiant effort as he struck out 16 in 8 2/3 innings, allowing only two earned runs on 10 hits and two walks. Jason Wehri finished up.

Henry Duke, Geoff Allen, Matt Bekar and Wells each had two hits for Hamilton. The T-Birds were charged with five errors.
