Canada Basketball on Thursday named its final 12-man roster for the Canadian Junior Men’s National Team and two Hamilton natives made the cut.
Mike Allison, a St. Mary’s High School product, and Tyrone Watson, a Cathedral High School product, have left with their 10 teammates for Formosa, Argentina, to begin final preparations for the 2008 FIBA Americas U18 Championships.
Allison is a 6-9 forward and Watson is a 5-11 guard.
“We’re tremendously excited about all the athletes on this team,” said Canadian Junior National Team head coach Greg Francis. “We’re building some great chemistry with this group and we look forward to competing and playing our game down in Argentina.”
The top four finishers from this summer’s FIBA Americas Championship will earn a berth at the 2009 U19 World Championships in New Zealand.
Canada’s Junior Men finished 10th overall (4-4 record) at the 2007 FIBA U19 Junior World Championships and look to build on that result next year with this year’s zone qualifying event.
