Marauders romp all over Lions for second OUA football win

McMaster running back Joey Nemet (Burlington) rushed for 147 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries to lead the 2-3 Marauders to a 53-0 victory over the York Lions (0-5).

McMaster cornerback Shane Beaton (Brampton) had two interceptions in the fourth quarter, including a 13-yard touchdown runback and a 29-yard interception to the York one-yard line in Friday’s (Sept. 26) Ontario University Athletics football matchup.

The York Lions could only muster 67 net yards on 47 plays.

McMaster quarterback, Ryan Fantham (London) completed 13 of 27 passes for 166 yards, fout touchdowns and two interceptions. Mac’s backup quarterbacks, Steve Sparks (Hamilton) and Kyle Quinlan (Lasalle, ON) both saw action for the Marauders. McMaster receiver Kevin D’Hollander (London) had three catches for 57 yards. Andrew Ross (Burlington) had four receptions for 42 yards. McMaster’s leading receiver, Matt Peressini (St. Catharines) had two catches for 40 yards.

Matthew Hutchinson (Leamington) had a solid night at tailback, carrying the ball seven times for 41 yards for McMaster.

York quarterback, Nick Coutu (St. Catharines) completed sox of 18 passes for 42 yards and threw three interceptions. Matthew Fewell (Newmarket) had two catches for 17 yards. Graham Allen (Collingwood) had a 17-yard reception.

Jason Marshall (Innisfil) had 38 yards on 12 carries for York.

The McMaster defense was led by McKenzie Dent (Waterloo), Phil Mills (Abbotsford, B.C.) and Jesse Montani (Hamilton) who each contributed four tackles. Ryan Chmielewski (St. Catharines) had three tackles and an interception. Kurt Morrison (Sault Ste. Marie) added two tackles and a 16-yard interception for the Marauders.

Steven Reading (Fenelon Falls) had nine solo tackles for York. Rob Thomas (Queensville) had 6 tackles and 1 sack for the Lions.
