First wave of Habs prospects sent to Bulldogs


Montreal Canadiens assigned 16 players (11 forwards, three defencemen, two goaltenders) to the Hamilton Bulldogs today (Sept. 29).

All 16 players are scheduled to be in attendance when the American Hockey League club opens it’s 13th training camp at Mile One Centre in St. John’s, NL tomorrow (Tuesday, Sept. 30). Of the sixteen players sent from the parent National Hockey League team, seven competed for the Bulldogs during the 2007-2008 season.

Returning are forwards Mathieu Aubin, David Desharnais, Ryan Russell, Brock Trotter and J.T. Wyman; defenceman Pavel Valentenko; and goaltender Cedrick Desjardins. Also joining the ‘Dogs are forwards Thomas Beauregard (Cincinnati Cyclones, ECHL), Ryan Flinn (Springfield Falcons, AHL / Hershey Bears, AHL); Mike Glumac (St. Louis Blues, NHL / Peoria Rivermen, AHL); Olivier Latendresse (San Antonio Rampages, AHL / Cincinnati Cyclones, ECHL / Arizona Sundogs, CHL); Yanick Lehoux (San Antonio Rampage, AHL / Khimik Mytishi, RSL); and Ryan White (Calgary Hitmen, WHL); defencemen Chad Anderson (Philadelphia Phantoms, AHL), and Shawn Belle (Houston Aeros, AHL); and goaltender Loic Lacasse (Bloomington Prairie Thunder, IHL).

The Bulldogs are scheduled to open the AHL season at MTS Centre in Winnipeg on Friday, Oct. 10, when they will meet the Manitoba Moose in the first of back-to-back games between the North Division rivals.

The ‘Dogs home opener is set for Friday, Oct. 17, when they battle the Hartford Wolf Pack at Copps Coliseum at 7:30 p.m.
