The Mohawk rugby team, which last year lost in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association bronze medal match in overtime to Fleming College, has gained a measure of revenge. The Mountaineers defeated the Knights in Peterborough on Saturday (Sept. 27), 45-5.
Mohawk improved it’s West Region record to 2-0, while the East leading Knights slipped to 2-1. Mohawk’s next match is Wednesday (Oct.1) at Georgian in Barrie.
Meanwhile, Mohawk’s cross country team had a very good day Saturday at the Fanshawe Invitational in London. The men were second behind Fanshawe. Individually, Mohawk had three runners in the top eight – Andre Simon (2), Justin Hensen (7) and Dave Hirsh (8). The women could not field enough runners for the team event, but Charlene Gibbins was fourth overall.
Mohawk plans to be at the next invitational, Saturday (Oct. 4) at Fleming College in Peterborough.
