The Mohawk women’s soccer team lost 2-0 to the Redeemer Royals in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association action.
Redeemer got goals from Phoebe Mitton and Bethany Dehaan three minutes apart midway through the first half. Mohawk dominated the second half, but the Royals withstood the Mountaineers’ pressure to improve to 4-3, while Mohawk saw it’s mark go to 2-5-1 after the Friday (Oct. 3) game at Redeemer.
Mohawk head coach Renzo Castellani said injuries have really played havoc with his team this year.
“We have too many players sitting on the bench who are really good.” He also noted there has been a disturbing pattern of allowing a soft goal each game, then the team lies down and waits for something to happen.
“The team played fairly well for all the rookies that we have, said Castellani. “There’s nothing we can do about it. We just have to regroup and keep on going.”
The Mountaineers’ next action will be a return engagement with Redeemer on Thursday (Oct. 9) at 4:30 p.m. at Mohawk Sports Park.
