Mohawk had mixed fortunes in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association soccer with the Mountaineers men’s team playing to a goalless draw against Redeemer, and the women losing 2-0 to the Royals.
Goalkeepers Jordan Dykstra of Mohawk and Nathan Ayer of Redeemer each had clean sheets in the men’s contest on Thursday (Oct. 9) at the Mohawk Sports complex.
But it was a much improved effort for the Mountaineers who lost 4-1 to Redeemer last week. Mohawk head coach Richard Bennett felt his side had more of the play and more chances, but couldn’t capitalize.
The Mountaineers are now 2-7-2. The Royals are 3-5-3. In the women’s game, Christina Reid and Bethany DeHaan scored for Redeemer, one in each half, while Shawna Druif got the shutout against the rookie-laden Mountaineers.
Mohawk head coach Renzo Castellani says the team has to “take their lumps” win or lose and move forward. The Mountaineers are 2-6-1. Redeemer is having a fine season at 5-3-1.
The Mohawk men and women close out regular schedule play Wednesday, Oct. 15 when Humber visits. Both games start at 4:30 p.m. at Mohawk Sports Park.
