Hudecek finds fun in Funtastics 10-pin league

The second perfect game of the season was rolled by Joe Hudecek in the Funtastics League at Skyway Lanes. With an average of 194, Hudecek started off the Friday night league perfectly with the 300 game. Then games of 199 and 171 produced a 670 triple for the 15-year welder from Munck Crane in Stoney Creek.

His previous high game was 279 while he has a 725 triple to his credit for the twice-a-week Skyway bowler. Just after moving to Walter Avenue in Hamilton’s east end 15 years ago, Hudecek, who also plays chess, and his wife Marie found themselves at Skyway, and after a few games they were hooked and have enjoyed the game ever since. Marie, who bowls once a week, holds an impressive 186 average.

Ed Margueratt now has ten 600 triples this season at Skyway after great efforts of 684 (234, 209, 241) and 650 (207, 223, 220) to maintain his 200 average in two leagues.

Within minutes, a pair of 700s were recorded at Skyway. Chris Marquette blasted a 710 (234, 247, 229) followed by and Mark Ward’s 700 (220,244,236). The Herchenroder brothers were hot, as Nobby scored a 651 and Mark a 634 (255). Ron Elliott stirred a 651 triple one week then a 254 single the next. Matt Ashley bagged a 641 and fine singles were rolled by Walter Balog (266), Jeff Lang (257) and Jim Margueratt (224). Jen Olmsted grooved a 607 triple while Derek Hannah, who fired a 300 in 1999, now has a 168, 169, 170 stepladder series this year.

Shawn Anderson who has the first 300 of the season, now has his first-ever conversion of the 7-10 split at Prime Time Bowling. Jeff Lofft missed 1,000 by two pins with games of 268, 257, 227 and 246. Lionel Lewis Jr., hit 973 with a 278 and 930 with a 257. Jason Stevens reached 963 with a 268, Vic Riding hit 889 (257), Matt Lewis recorded 876 with a pair of 246s, Amanda Lupton had a 797, Ian Hazelton showed a 279 single, and Ken Peters started with a seven count in frame one before rolling 11 strikes in a row for a 277 single, 745 triple and 954 set.

In the Jonarc Mens Classic at Skyway, Doug Schatz used a 279 game for a 792 triple and 1,016 for his four games. Ed Maurer pumped a 772 triple, 984 set and 260 single while Steve Smith started with nine strikes for a 278 and Lionel
Lewis tallied a 264.

In Hamilton Tenpin Trivia, Mike Sydor rolled a 169 triplicate one week then 170, 170, 171 the next at Burlington Bowl in April 1981. Mike Ricker just missed a triplicate with 227, 226, 227 at Skyway in March 1981. Bill Bailey (136 average) rolled a 136 triplicate at Skyway in 1973.
