The Mohawk women’s volleyball team rallied from an early deficit, but defeated the Fanshawe Falcons 3-1 in their Ontario Colleges Athletic Association curtain raiser in London on Wednesday (Oct. 15).
The scores were 18-25, 25-11, 26-24, 28-26.
Veteran Leah Waxman led the way for the Mountaineers with 15 kills, two service aces and 13 digs. Candice Kragten had 13 kills, two aces, one stuff block and one dig.
Rachel VanHartingsveldt contributed 11 kills, four aces and 12 digs, while new middle player Allison Feliciano, from the Cambridge area, had 11 kills and one block.
Mohawk head coach Brian McEnhill called it a solid start. “It was a good insight (as) to how much work the team still has to do over the year, but we have some good ladies (and it’s) just a matter of the coach doing his job now.”
The Mountaineers next league action is Thursday, Oct. 23 when they visit the Sheridan Bruins at their Trafalgar campus in Oakville.
