It was a good trip to Oakville for Mohawk’s volleyball teams on Thursday (Oct. 23). The men downed the Sheridan Bruins 3-1, while the women swept the home side 3-0.
The women made it two wins in as many matches this early Ontario Colleges Athletic Association season. The scores were 25-11, 25-19, 25-10.
Mountaineers’ coach Brian McEnhill said it was a game of serving. “Third year player Rachel Vanhartingsveldt led the team with five service aces. Second year setter Kellie Crnic was feeding the hitters well from strong passing games from first year libero Libby Johnson and second year libero Ashley Brunkard.
“We need to continue to work on our power game as the season pushes forward.”
Sheridan was playing its first match of the regular season. The Mohawk men downed Sheridan 25-12, 25-23, 18-25, 25-19, to even their record at 1-1. Sheridan is 0-1.
Steve Pawelczyk had 14 kills, two service aces and three stuff blocks for Mohawk. Teammate Greg Mousseau contributed 12 kills, two aces and two blocks.
