Mohawk men, women lose in basketball

It was only appropriate that on All Saints Day, the St. Clair Saints should dominate. And dominate they did on Saturday (Nov. 1), taking a pair of Ontario Colleges Athletic Association basketball games from their hosts, the Mohawk Mountaineers.

In women’s play, the visitors jumped out to a 35-10 half time lead and went on to win 59-37. Jenae Grayer scored 16 points for the 3-0 Saints. Tracy Lehane (Cambridge Southwood) led the Mountaineers with 10 points. Mohawk’s record slipped to 1-1.

The Mohawk men are also 1-1, after bowing 82-77 to St. Clair (2-1). David Korencic scored 23 points for the Saints, who led 39-34 at the half.

Ricky Heath (Glendale) paced the Mountaineers with 23 points. Alen Beader (Glendale) had 12 and Dwayne Secord (Cathedral) added 10.
