Holt tops CIS goalies in all-star voting


McMaster Marauders’ Amy Holt was named First Team All-star goalkeeper in Canadian Interuniversity Sport women’s soccer.

Holt, a third-year player and graduate of Barton high school, played 15 games (14 conference matches and one playoff meeting. She registered eight shutouts this season. Holt was the only Marauder to make the first squad of all-stars, but teammate and midfielder Cheryl Druchok (Caledon) was selected for the second team. The third-year player had one goal in 15 games.

Second-year York striker Stefania Morra is the player of the year in the CIS.

Other CIS major award winners are Trinity Western’s Nikki Wright of Cloverdale, B.C., who was named rookie of the year; Alberta’s Jacqueline Smith of Sherwood Park, Alta., who received the second annual Student-Athlete Community Service Award; Montreal’s Kevin McConnell, who earned coach of-the-year honours.
