Mohawk’s volleyball teams both came away from Redeemer with victories Wednesday (Nov. 19). The men won 3-2 and the women swept the Royals 3-0 in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association doubleheader.
Stacy Dafoe had nine kills and six service aces in the Mohawk women’s 25-18, 25-13, 25-13 triumph. Leah Waxman had eight kills and Candice Kragten collected seven kills, one stuff block and one ace.
Chantel Schutten led Redeemer with seven kills, one block and one ace.
Mohawk assistant coach Michelle Foxcroft said the Mountaineers came into the match with a strong plan and executed it very well. “They showed strong serving and consistent hitting,” said Foxcroft. “It was a well rounded effort.” Mohawk is now 4-1 in the OCAA’s West Region, while Redeemer is 4-4.
The Mohawk men had quite a see-saw battle with the Royals, finally prevailing 27-25, 19-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-9.
Steve Pawelczyk had 20 kills and two aces for the Mountaineers, now 3-1 in the West. Ryan Talsma had 20 kills, one block and six aces for Redeemer, now 4-2.
