Niagara gets Boggs-ed down in women’s basketball

Casey Boggs scored 15 points leading Mohawk to a 52-43 victory over Niagara in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association women’s basketball.

Playing on their Fennell court on Tuesday (Nov. 18), the Mountaineers led the Knights 22-17 at half time. Boggs, a graduate of Hill Park Secondary School, was good on six of 12 field goal attempts, including three, three-pointers.

Katie Daniels (Saltfleet) had 11 points and Tracy Lehane (Cambridge Southwood) added nine points. Jessica James led Niagara with 11 points.

Boggs felt the Mountaineers deserved the win. “We played better as a team, the passing was improved and the shots were going in.” Mohawk coach Kelly Dunham was particularly pleased with the team’s defence. “They (Niagara) had 22 turnovers and that was because of how tough we played on ‘D’ said Dunham. “That was our goal. We needed the ball on ‘D’ for us to fast break and get some easy baskets. We could have had a bit more, but we were a bit too excited trying to pass the ball up too quickly and not making the right decisions.”

Mohawk improved to 2-3, while Niagara slipped to 3-3.
