Whistle blowers get call for international hockey games

Three local referees are among the 22 Canadian officials assigned by the International Ice Hockey Federation to work at 14 different IIHF events during the 2008-2009 season. All 22 officials are products of the Hockey Canada Officiating Program.

Hamilton’s Darcy Burchell will officiate at the World Men’s Under-18 Championship in Fargo, North Dakota and Moorhead, Minnesota. Mary Anne Gage of Burlington has won an assignment to the World Women’s Championship at Hameenlinna, Finland. Travelling to Belarus for the World Men’s U18 Championship, Division I tournament is Brent Holdsworth of Hamilton.

The Hockey Canada Officiating Program (HCOP) is for anyone interested in officiating the game of hockey, from beginners to seasoned veterans. There are six levels in the HCOP, from those looking to get started, to the top tier of officials.
