Soares helps Rivermen tame ‘Dogs in AHL play

The Hamilton Bulldogs fell defeated 2-1 to the Peoria Rivermen in front 2,718 fans at Copps Coliseum on Thursday night (Dec. 11).

While on the power play, Peoria opened the game’s scoring at 6:35 of the first period. Julien Talbot grabbed a rebound and beat goaltender Marc Denis.

Hamilton native Josh Soares gave the Rivermen a two-goal lead at 1:05 of the middle frame. Soares skated down the left side before snapping a shot over the right shoulder of Denis and into the top corner of the net. Denis faced 29 shots in total.

The Bulldogs completed the game’s scoring late in the third period. Alex Henry hammered a shot from the point that was stopped by Peoria goaltender Chris Holt. Following a scramble in front of the net, Greg Stewart picked up the loose puck and shovelled it underneath Holt at 18:05. Holt stopped all but one of the 25 Bulldogs’ shots.

The ‘Dogs travel to Toronto on Sunday (Dec. 14) to take on the Marlies at 4 p.m. at Ricoh Coliseum.
