Time to recognize the dedication of coaches in amateur sports

The Coaches Association of Ontario (CAO) is looking for nominations for its Excellence Awards. The honours recognize the outstanding achievements and significant contributions coaches have made to both their sport and athletes in Ontario.

The selection of recipients is based on their unique contribution to sport through continuous development. The awards do not reflect the accomplishments of a coach in any one-year; rather the award is designed to recognize the contributions a coach has made over a period of years.
There are five categories of awards which refer to the type of athlete the coach is primarily responsible for and in each category males and female coaches will be recognized. The categories include: Recreational / Grass Roots, Developmental, School Sports, (selected by Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association), High Performance, and the Volunteer Sport Administrator Award, which is a new category. This award is given to an outstanding volunteer who has dedicated his or her time to developing and supporting coaches in their sport and in their community.

To nominate an individual, forms can be obtained at the CAO office, Suite 108, 3 Concorde Gate, Toronto, M3C 3N7.

To be eligible for an award, a nominee must coach amateur athletes, and have a minimum of two years coaching experience in Ontario. The nominated coach must also consent to the nomination.

All complete nomination forms, and any supporting documents (i.e. letters of reference, news articles, etc.) must be received by Friday, Jan. 9, at 4 p.m. The awards will be presented at an evening reception at the Ontario Coaches Conference on Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Sheraton Parkway Hotel in Richmond Hill.
