Nimble Desjardins keeps Marlies at Bay in ‘Dogs win

Cedrick Desjardins turned aside 35 of 36 shots to backstop the Hamilton Bulldogs to a 2-1 win over the Toronto Marlies on Sunday afternoon (Dec. 14) in American Hockey League action.

Hamilton used a powerplay goal by Mike Glumac at 7.13 of the first period to take an early lead that would stand until the third period. After a scoreless second frame that saw Desjardins stop all 20 shots, Ben Ondrus tied the game at 6:57 of the third period.

David Desharnais scored the winner for Hamilton at 17:07 of the final 20 minutes. His shot deflected off Marlies’ defenceman Staffan Kronwall’s stick and over the glove of goalie Justin Pogge.

Slightly more than 2,700 fans watched the game at the Ricoh Coliseum.

The ‘Dogs travel to Manchester on Friday, Dec. 19 to take on the Monarchs at 7:30 p.m. before heading to Hartford to battle the Wolf Pack the following night at 7 p.m. Fans can listen to the games on 820 CHAM or at
