Second, sixth place showing for Mountain Athletic Club volleyball girls

Mountain Athletic Club (MAC) girls 13U and 14U teams shone at their first Ontario Volleyball Association Provincial Cup Zone C Tournament. At the 13U Provincial Cup, the MAC team finished second overall and at the 14U Provincial Cup, MAC finished sixth overall.

The 13U girls finished first in their pool, defeating the Barrie Elites Black, 25-20, 25-16; Toronto West, 18-25, 25-20, 18-16; NBYVC, 25-23, 25-19, and the Collingwood Cubs, 25-11, 25-20.

In the repool match, they lost to the Etobicoke Titans, 25-21, 25-19.

The 13U and 14U MAC-MVP girl’s teams are coached by Jos Nederveen of Dundas, Ludmil Hamanov of Mississauga and Siobhan Mondesire of Ancaster.

The 13U team athletes include: Daniella Balaz, Stoney Creek; Bianca Brown, Ancaster; Monica Carnicelli, Ancaster; Victoria Golebiowski, Binbrook; Nicole Golebiowski, Binbrook; Nicole Gwiazdowicz, Dundas; Mila Krunic, Oakville; Sydney Kovar, Stoney Creek; Briana Layard, Campbellville; Regan Russell, Ancaster.

The 14U girls finished third in their pool defeating both the Halton Hurricanes Blue, 25-19; 16-25, 15-11, and the Waterloo Tigers Black, 25-19, 25-16; losing to the Niagara Rapids, 19-25, 7-25; and Toronto West, 2-25, 26-26, 11-15. In re-pool play, MAC was defeated by Niagara Rapids Black, 25-19, 25-16 and the Waterdown Raiders, 22-25, 22-25.

The 14U team athletes include: Monica Farrar-Germaine, Hamilton; Carlie Gabrella, Carlisle; Caitlin Genovy, Stoney Creek; Etena Hamanova, Mississauga; Joanna Jedrzejewska, Hamilton; Katie Kastelic, Hamilton; Kaitlyn Mattiozzi, Hamilton; Jennifer Newell, Hamilton; Leah Sharp, Dundas; Sara Toner, Carlisle.
