The Mohawk women’s volleyball team needed just over an hour to defeat the Lambton Lions 3-0 in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association action al Lambton on Tuesday (Jan. 20).
After a long bus ride to Sarnia and minus two starting right side players in Leah Waxman (Port Dover Composite) and Kellie Crnic (Bishop Ryan), the Mountaineers came to play. They made some lineup adjustments and Ashley Brunkard, a third year player from Norwell District Secondary School in Palmerston was key to the 25-13, 25-19, 25-10 decision.
“Ashley stepped right at setter and ran a tight offence,” said coach Michelle Foxcroft.
Brunkard also served for 12 points in the third set.
Stacy Dafoe (Paris District) led Mohawk with seven kills, one stuff block and two services aces while Candice Kragten (Cayuga Secondary) had six kills and seven blocks for the Mountaineers, who improved to 10-3, while Lambton tumbled to 1-13.
