MAC clubs medal in volleyball tourneys


It was a weekend of silver and bronze for the Mountain Athletic Club’s volleyball clubs. MAC’s 18U girls returned home with silver from the 18U Open Tournament in Stratford while the 18U boys earned bronze at the 18U Ken Davies Tournament in Bowmanville.

The 18U girls finished first in their pool, defeating the Hawks 25-23, 25-12, and WEVC, 25-14, 25-8. MAC 18U then defeated their club mates, MAC 17U girls, 25-19, 25-21 in the quarter finals and crossed over to play and defeat the South County Bandits in the semifinals, 12-25, 25-22, and 15-10.

The 18U girls lost to the London Forest City Green, 25-19, 25-19, to win the silver medal.

The 18U team is coached by Mike Fuchs of Glanbrook, Rodney Manual of Hamilton and Kara Kindree of Hamilton.

In their tourney, the 18U boys defeated the Waterloo Tigers, 2-0, lost to the Crush, 2-0, to finish second in their pool. In the quarter finals, MAC defeated Interclub, 2-0, and lost to Forest City, 2-0, in the semi finals. MAC finished strong beating Aurora Storm for the bronze medal, 25-17, 22-25, 15-12.

The 18U girls’ team is coached by Mike Fuchs of Glanbrook, Rodney Manual of Hamilton and Kara Kindree of Hamilton. Players include: Kristie Crnic, Stoney Creek; Kate Howard, Oakville; Jenna Gignac, Hamilton; Jaclyn Howard, Carlisle; Jelena Marjanovic, Dundas; Vanessa Rocca, Ancaster; Jennifer Seecharan, Hamilton; Kathryn Toner, Carlisle; and Amanda Weldon, Hamilton.

The boys 18U team is coached by Steve Bonazza of St. Catharines and Josh Patterson of Thorold. Players include: Wilson Hadfield, St. Catharines; Stephen Holmes, Ancaster; Govan Darren, Guelph; Dominic Kucharski, St. Catharines; Christopher Pinder, Cambridge; Ahmed El-Sayed, Oakville; Marcin Jedrzejewski, Hamilton; Robert Hudson, Morriston; Patrick Strzalkowski, St. Catharines; Jacob Glantz, St. Catharines; Aaron Vanderlugt, Burlington; and Tre Cunningham, St. Catharines.
