Hallwent skaters sharp at national championships

Members of Skate Canada’s Western Ontario Hallwent Region came away from the 2009 Adult Figure Skating Championships in Fredericton, N.B. with a strong showing.

In the Silver Women’s section, Patricia Leong of Dundas placed first in the Free Skate Class III-IV division. In second and third respectively were Hamilton’s Karen Ciprietti and Barbara Tkach in the competitions which were staged April 1 to 5.

Leong, paired with Jim Leong, placed second in the Gold Dance Free section and the couple also placed second in the Adult Pair division while taking third in the Adult Couple Interpretive class.

Tkach was the first place winner in the Silver Women Interpretive Class IV division. In the Bronze Women Interpretative Class I/II competition, Hamilton’s Helen Atkinson placed first while Burlington’s Mandy Bartlett was second. Atkinson also garnered a first place finish in the Gold Women Free Skate Class I program with Bartlett coming in fourth.

Ciprietti was a fourth place finisher in the Gold Women Interpretive Class III/IV skate with Leong placing sixth.

Jim Leong was the top performer in the Silver Men Free Skate Class III. He repeated his first place standing in the Gold Men Interpretive program.

In the Senior Bronze Dance event, Beverly Kukhta-Jackson of Hamilton and partner Mandy Bartlett were first place finishers. Kukhta-Jackson was also second in the Bronze Women Free Skate Class I section and was third in the Bronze Women Interpretive Class III/IV section.
