3-2 win gives Bulldogs second place and playoff advantage


The Hamilton Bulldogs clinched second place in the American Hockey League’s North Division and home ice advantage in their first round playoff series with Grand Rapids by edging the Griffins 3-2 Friday night (April 10).

Grand Rapids opened the scoring at 6:04 of the first period. Jakub Kindl deflected a shot on net past goaltender Marc Denis. But Grand Rapids’ celebration was short lived when Ben Maxwell tied the game 38 seconds later. Yanick Lehoux and Max Pacioretty picked up assists on the goal.

Francis Lemieux gave the Griffins a 2-1 lead at 5:25 of the middle frame. Lemieux received a pass from Garrett Stafford before firing a shot on net.

Mike Glumac pulled the Hamilton visitors even 44 seconds into the final frame. While stationed at the right point, Mathieu Carle blasted a shot on net which Glumac redirected past goalie Jimmy Howard.

At 15:58, David Desharnais scored the winning goal with Glumac and Mathieu Carle earning assists.

The Bulldogs finish the 2008-2009 regular season tonight (Saturday) at 5 p.m. when they visit Ricoh Coliseum to battle the Toronto Marlies.

Hamilton outshot Grand Rapids 43-26 with 10,834 spectators watching.
