‘Dogs end regular season play with fifth straight win

The Hamilton Bulldogs ended regular season play with a 2-1 overtime victory over the Toronto Marlies on Saturday night (April 11) at the Ricoh Centre. The Bulldogs 49th win of the 2008-09 season ties a franchise record for most wins in a season.

Hamilton opens post-season play at home on Friday (April 17) when they welcome the Grand Rapids Griffins to Copps Coliseum for Game 1 of their best-of-seven.

Saturday night, Hamilton got on the score board first at 6:28 of the second stanza. David Desharnais beat goalie Adam Munro with an assist going to T.J. Kemp.

Hamilton was just 12 seconds away from a regulation-time win when Bates Battaglia beat Hamilton goaltender Cedrick Desjardins.

At the 3:46 mark of the extra session, Desharnais grabbed the puck in front of the Toronto net and faked a shot before feeding a pass to Mathieu Carle, who beat Munro with the winning game, Hamilton’s fifth straight victory.

Hamilton outshot the Marlies, 28-25.
